Operations Manager Position


The Plant Man Landscape & Design is currently seeking an exceedingly motivated and talented Operations Manager to immediately join our fast-paced Tallahassee based team. We are a full service landscape design-build company specializing in high-end residential and commercial landscape design projects.

Our family wholesale plant nursery was started in 1980 and is still in operation today.  Through it, we have supplied quality landscape material to landscapers and garden centers in Tallahassee and the southeastern United States for 36 years!  That history and experience laid the foundation for the creation of The Plant Man Landscape & Design company in 2007 to meet the needs of residential and commercial clients. Our company has tripled in size since then and we are continuing to grow at a rapid pace.

As both designers and contractors for our projects, we are able to maintain the plan from start to finish. Our design development is open and collaborative. Our scope of work is widespread, covering the design of hardscape, plant material, outdoor structures, water features, and landscape arrangement.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supervise all day-to-day operational aspects of the company
  • Maintain all labor relations aspects of the company including labor logistics, labor training, and equipment/vehicles/fleet management
  • Regularly inspect and evaluate physical condition of equipment and facilities; recommend repairs, additions and disposals… etc.
  • Review, track, and improve driving behaviors, fuel purchases, and oil changes regularly using FleetMatics
    • Ensure that overall operational performance targets are achieved in relation to service quality, contract costs, and customer expectations
  • Provide the highest level of professionalism and enthusiasm to maximize customer satisfaction
  • Possess strong leadership abilities to manage several contracts that implicate hiring, training, and implementing site maintenance teams for a variety of contractors and vendors
  • Ensure inventory is monitored regularly and stocked on a quarterly basis or as needed
  • Pay close attention to detail, reflect positive employee relation skills, training abilities, problem-solving and employee conflict solution
  • Establish and review standards and work procedures for all staff
  • Conduct interviews, select, hire, evaluate, and recommend termination of personnel in accordance with company standards
  • Handle unsafe conditions and conduct research to improve service quality and safety standards
  • Schedule major project work, assuring that adequate staff and supplies are available to complete the project per the contract
  • Communicate with Designer to ensure supplies have been ordered and all specific requests have been considered
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and communicate with crew leaders and crew members to coordinate operational activities
  • Plan work schedules, hours, areas of work, and job duties to ensure adequate services are rendered to all areas
  • Create work orders that include specific information regarding contracts such as the location of plants, walls, and patios per the Designer as well as the types of tools needed to complete the project
  • Coordinate all vendors and contractors relative to operation activities (i.e. pest and wee control, concrete, paver installation, trash and debris removal, gas hook-up, carpenter, plumber… etc) 

Qualifications:

  • Experience leading a team toward a common goal
  • Experience managing frequent meetings with the Designer, Crew Leaders, and Crew Members
  • 2+ years of project management experience
  • 4+ years of landscape, irrigation, drainage, and outdoor living space experience
  • Possess reliable transportation, valid drivers license, and clean driving record
  • Willingness to work flexible hours that include late evenings and weekends
